About Us

LifeSense Disease Management is a registered managed care organisation specialising in Diabetes Management and HIV/AIDS.

LifeSense has been in existence since the year 2000 and is proudly a South African Company based in Rosebank Johannesburg.

As a managed care organisation, LifeSense partners with Medical Schemes to assist their scheme members to manage and live life healthily with their chronic conditions like HIV/AIDS, Diabetes and the Diabetes-related co-morbidities hypertension (high blood pressure)  and dyslipidaemia (high cholesterol).

LifeSense offers full counselling and education to all registered members and their families to ensure a long and healthy life living with diabetes.

IDF (International Diabetes Federation)  stated in 2019 the following Worldwide facts and figures:

  • Approximately 463 million adults (20-79yrs) were living with diabetes, by 2045 this will rise to 700 million, the majority of whom have type 2 diabetes.
  • 1 in 5 people over the age of 65 have diabetes.
  • 1 in 2 (232 million) people living with diabetes were undiagnosed i.e. living with diabetes but have not had a formal diagnosis and are not on treatment.
  • Diabetes and the compilations thereof resulted in 4.2 million deaths.
  • 1.1 million children and adolescents are living with Type 1 diabetes.
  • 1 in 6 live births (more than 20 million) are affected by diabetes during pregnancy [Gestational diabetes]
  • 374 million people are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

South Africa: The prevalence (number of people living with the condition) of diabetes in South Africa has reached 12.8%, which is significantly higher than previously reported.

In 2019, over 4.5 million adults (20-79yrs) in South Africa were estimated to be living with diabetes. Over two million of these 4.5 million are undiagnosed and as a result, may be at risk of life-threatening complications.
